Champions for HD Annual Awards
These awards are presented each year at our Benefit Concert to recognize individuals who exemplify courage, compassion, and commitment in the fight against Huntington’s Disease (HD) and Juvenile HD (JHD).
Champion for HD Award
Established: 2018
Purpose: Our original and flagship honor. This award recognizes any individual—whether gene-positive, symptomatic, at-risk, a caregiver, medical professional, researcher, or advocate—who has made a significant and positive impact in the HD/JHD community.
Qualities: Advocacy, inspiration, leadership, and impact.
Eligibility: Open to all, regardless of HD status or role. Previous winners include genetic counselors, patients, family members.
Champions for HD Caregiver Award
Established: 2023
Purpose: To ensure that those who dedicate their lives to caring for someone with HD or JHD receive the spotlight and gratitude they deserve. This award honors the selfless love, resilience, and strength of a caregiver.
Qualities: Compassion, consistency, emotional strength, and unwavering support.
Eligibility: Anyone currently or previously providing significant care for an individual affected by HD or JHD.
Brave Breanna Award (New in 2025)
Purpose: Named in memory of our first-ever Champion for HD, Breanna Lentz, who passed away from JHD at age 14. This award celebrates the spirit of brave young individuals facing HD or JHD who continue to shine, inspire, or uplift others despite profound challenges.
Qualities: Courage, joy in adversity, and the power to inspire through authenticity and heart.
Eligibility: Youth or young adults diagnosed with or impacted by JHD, or individuals of any age who reflect Breanna’s brave spirit. Can be awarded posthumously.
