"Brave Breanna" Book
She couldn’t walk, talk, or eat… but she taught us how to live, love, and fight.

Shelby Lentz, Champions for HD Founder and President, holding her children's book "Brave Breanna."
Breanna Lentz was just 12 years old when she was diagnosed with Juvenile Huntington’s Disease — a rare, early-onset version of HD that progresses rapidly and aggressively. Within a year of her diagnosis, Bre lost the ability to walk, talk, and eat.
And yet, through it all, she never stopped smiling. 💜
Breanna inspired everyone around her with her strength, her laughter, and her unwavering spirit — even in the face of a disease that tried to silence her. In 2020, JHD took Breanna’s life at just 14 years old. But her story didn’t end there.
She became the heartbeat of Champions for HD.
📘 The Book: Brave Breanna
After Breanna passed away, her older sister Shelby — founder of Champions for HD — turned grief into something beautiful: a children’s book written in Bre’s honor.
“Brave Breanna” is a story about a little girl whose strength couldn’t be measured by what she could do, but by how brightly she shined in spite of it all. Written with love and illustrated for children, the book aims to educate families about Juvenile Huntington’s Disease, while celebrating the bravery of kids like Breanna who live through it.
“I wanted to write a book that JHD families could see themselves in — something to honor Bre, and help other kids feel a little less alone.”
— Shelby Lentz
🦋 Bre's Legacy Lives On
Through the Brave Breanna story and the work of Champions for HD, Bre’s light continues to touch others every day. Her story is the reason we offer emotional and financial support to families, fund JHD moments that matter, and fight for research and awareness.
We believe every child with JHD deserves the chance to feel seen, celebrated, and loved — just like Bre was.
